New Healthy Soils Healthy Rivers Special Small Grants Program for Local Community Groups

Community groups who are looking to actively improve riparian management along the Avon River (specifically the sub-catchments of the Lower Avon, Middle Avon, Upper Avon, Brockman, Mortlock North, Mortlock East and Dale catchments) are invited to submit suitable project proposals or expressions of interest to Wheatbelt NRM for consideration.  

The deadline for submissions is 14th September 2026. Support is available up to a value of between $3,000 and $9,000 per recipient group.  

The intent of this funding is to assist community groups with on-ground management interventions on the Avon that directly improve water quality and soil health.  

Eligible on-ground activities may include, but are not limited to: 

• Reducing nutrient runoff into waterways;  

• Bank stabilisation to repair or prevent foreshore erosion; 

• Protection of existing local flora;  

• Foreshore revegetation (endemic species); and 

• Weed control including grasses to promote natural regeneration; 

If you are part of a community group who would like to receive support for these types of activities, we encourage you to submit an expression of interest with us.

This project is funded as part of the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions’ Healthy Soils Healthy Rivers Program.
