Seen any Dead Rabbits?

Posted in:
Healthy Environments

Australia had recorded at least five dead hares confirmed with Rabbit Calicivirus RHDV2 – four from SA and one from Victoria.

Signs of the virus include pink in the bone marrow of intact hind leg bones.

If you think you may have RHDV1/RHDV2 activity in your area and you find dead hares or rabbits on your property, please contact DAFWA so the carcasses can be analysed.

DAFWA requests that any submitted carcasses be kept as cold as possible (but not frozen).

Any rabbit carcass is ok, as long as it’s not baked from the sun or many months old!

Carcass reports can be made directly to Dr Susan Campbell, DAFWA’s Research Officer for Invasive Species.
