Tending the Anzacs’ Graves

ANZAC day 2024, and they are still not forgotten.

Leading up to ANZAC day 2024, WNRM’s Noongar Boodjar Rangers spent time ensuring the Northam cemetery was neat and tidy, with special care taken on the graves of those who had served our country in the armed forces.

As the Rangers have worked at the cemetery over the years, they have often noted the graves with the ‘Rising Sun’ emblem of the Australian Army. And so as ANZAC day approached the team decided to spend time, not only putting in extra to make the cemetery look its best for those who would visit it this year, but to focus on the graves of ANZACs.

Ranger manager, Jermaine Davis, walked over the cemetery and made sure the team knew where the graves were and the Rangers then ensured there were no weeds or leaves around them, mulched the area, and swept the graves.

It was a poignant time, with the Rangers commenting on how good it felt to do this for those who had served our country, often with their lives and to give them this small token of remembrance. We honour those who gave so much to those of us who do grow old in this fantastic country we call home.

May they rest in peace.
