Protecting Our Waterways - Environmental Art Competition

24 May 2006

All students in the Avon Region are invited to enter the Ribbons of Blue Environmental Art Competition.

The competition is open to students of all ages and aims to provide them with the opportunity to spread the message ‘Protecting Our Waterways’ to the wider community and enhance their artistic talents.

Using the slogan ‘Protecting Our Waterways’ students are encouraged to design a poster that is most fitting to this theme in the Avon Catchment. The best four entries will be reproduced onto permanent banners and displayed in the Main Street of Northam near the Council office during October.

All entries will be displayed in the Northam Boulevard during Water Week, 16th – 24th October. The winning entry will also be invited to enter the State Competition by reproducing their design onto a 1m x 1.8m banner (materials supplied) to be displayed at the Perth Royal Show.

Ribbons of Blue/Waterwatch WA is an environmental water quality monitoring network which, through environmental education, raises awareness and develops an understanding of water quality in a whole catchment context leading to on-ground action for a better environment.

The Ribbons of Blue program is a part of the Avon Catchment Council’s Healthy Ecosystems project and is funded by the State and Australian Governments through the National Action Plan for Salinity and Water Quality.

Registrations close on Friday the 30th June. All entries are due on Friday the 11th August.
