Staff Feature – September 2025: Aimee Mouritz
This month we’re thrilled to feature Aimee Mouritz, a passionate and driven member of the Wheatbelt NRM team who has been making a big impact since joining in July 2023.
Aimee first came on board as a Project Delivery Officer, and more recently stepped into the role of Sustainable Agriculture Facilitator. For Aimee, the move to Toodyay and the opportunity to work with an organisation known for its outstanding commitment to protecting natural assets made the role a perfect fit.
“It was Wheatbelt NRM’s fantastic reputation in natural asset protection that drew me in and I wanted to put my degree to use in a meaningful way,” Aimee said.
Passion Meets Purpose
What many might not realise about her role is just how much time Sustainable Agriculture Facilitators spend attending industry events, constantly upskilling and connecting with a wide network of stakeholders.
“There’s always so much happening in sustainable agriculture,” Aimee explains. “You’ve got to focus on the good stuff and move forward with positive energy. We already know what we need to do — and we’re doing it.”
On the Job
Aimee’s day-to-day is about to get a lot more field-based with the National Soil Monitoring Program ramping up. Over the next two years, she’ll be working on 449 detailed soil samples, engaging directly with landholders and managers across the region.
“This is exactly where I love to be — out in the field, contributing to better understanding and management of our soils.”
Project Pride
Among the projects Aimee is most proud of is the Assessing Saltbush for Carbon project.
“It’s such an inspiring initiative. Our trial plot landholders are amazing, and the idea of using saltbush to sequester carbon in saline environments is a real win-win. Seeing so many co-benefits from one project is just the best.”
Keeping Inspired
When work gets challenging, Aimee knows the value of balance and support.
“If I need a break, I take one. Our management is incredibly supportive, and that makes a huge difference. Sometimes the smartest thing you can do is rest and try again tomorrow.”
She credits the respect and encouragement she’s received from her team with helping her grow both professionally and personally.
“I’ve been given so many great opportunities and I’m not about to waste them.”
Life Outside Work
When she’s not working, Aimee’s all about running, hiking, camping, and dancing with friends — plus spending time with her kids. A fun fact? Her favourite job ever was working as a Jillaroo, mustering cattle on horseback and motorbike!
Her go-to snack: nuts, fruit or peanut butter chocolate spread. Favourite movie: The Nightingale — “watch at your own peril!” Favourite book: Burial Rites by Hannah Kent.
Looking Ahead
If Aimee could have a superpower to make her job easier?
“Super speedy brain powers!”
Her current focus is on building a passive income to create flexibility in her career and support her kids to do the same. As for the future of Wheatbelt NRM?
“What excites me most is our shared dream — to make the Wheatbelt the most productive and peaceful place to live and work. We know what we have is incredible, and we work collectively to value it and share it.”
