We’re on the Hunt for a new Red Card Naming Rights Sponsor
Wheatbelt NRM is on the hunt for the next Red Card for Rabbits and Foxes major sponsor.
The feral animal management program began in 2004 has been hugely successful in providing regional communities with the resources and knowledge needed to participate in coordinated events across the South West of WA.
The next major sponsor of Red Card for Rabbits and Foxes will have exclusive naming rights for all Red Card events with their contribution highly valued by volunteers and community members as they tackle the ongoing issues associated with feral animal management.
The new sponsorship period will run for a three-year term from late 2025 to 2028 with monies raised distributed to the Rural Men’s Health Initiative and Wheatbelt NRM to cover feral animal bounties, administration costs and grant assistance for local area coordinators to run events.
Regional Men’s Health Initiative executive officer Owen Catto said money raised through the Red Card for Rabbits and Foxes program will go towards the development of additional resources and/or special projects to help Regional Men’s Health Initiative reach men and communities in regional, rural and remote areas of WA.
Red Card for Rabbits and Foxes was initiated in 2004 by the Dumbleyung Landcare Zone, following collaboration with regional landcare officers and the then Department of Agriculture and Food Western Australia (DAFWA).
Today the program continues to increase awareness and participation by local communities in reducing feral animal populations through coordinated baiting and shooting activities.
Since 2013, Wheatbelt NRM has played a pivotal role in the management and coordination of the Red Card program with the Red Card Central Coordinator operating from the Wheatbelt NRM office in Northam.
A total of 9,755 community members across the southwest have been involved in coordinated events since its inception with feral animal control initiatives resulting in 40,900 foxes, 2,575 feral cats, and 24,921 rabbits being culled.
The most recent coordinated Red Card event coordinated during autumn 2025 saw a total of 4907 feral animals culled with 848 volunteers involved in the program.
Wheatbelt NRM would like to thank the outgoing major sponsor for the Red Card for Rabbits and Foxes, the Sporting Shooters Association of Australia (Western Australia), for their contribution towards the program over the past nine years.
