Environmental Youth Forums August 2026

Submit an EOI to register your schools interest! EOIs close June 13.

Homeschoolers are welcome to attend as well.

Wheatbelt NRM, in partnership with Millennium Kids, is inviting schools to take part in a series of Environmental Youth Forums during National Science Week as part of the Regional NRM Plan revision.

These forums will ensure young people have a voice in shaping the future of natural resource management across the Wheatbelt.

Locations:

Southern Cross – Tues 18 Aug 2026

Merredin – Thurs 20 Aug 2026

Northam – Tues 25 2026

Lake Grace – Thurs 27 2026

Each forum will run for approximately 5 hours, with catering provided.

The forums are part of the review of the Wheatbelt Regional NRM Plan, which guides environmental priorities and investment across the Avon River Basin.

During the forums, students will:

  • Contribute to regional environmental planning

  • Share ideas for the future of the Wheatbelt

  • Engage with environmental leaders and decision-makers

  • Explore solutions for climate, biodiversity, water, agriculture, and sustainability

  • Develop leadership and communication skills

The 2026 Science Week theme, “Seeds of science: Nurturing knowledge for all”, aligns strongly with the focus of these events.

Who should attend

Schools are encouraged to nominate students with an interest in:

  • Science, STEM, and innovation

  • Agriculture and sustainability

  • Environmental leadership and conservation

Ideal students may be involved in science programs, sustainability groups, agricultural studies, Landcare projects, or leadership roles.
