Red Card for Rabbits and Foxes

Posted in:
Healthy Environments

Red Card for Rabbits and Foxes was held over two weekends this autumn. 814 community volunteers participated in this coordinated predator management activity. The idea is to make a greater impact through coordinating teams to conduct baiting and shooting activities at the same time across the landscape.

Red Card for Rabbits and Foxes is being sponsored by the Sporting Shooter’s Association of Australia (Western Australia). For every fox and cat culled, they will donate $5 to a capped amount to the Regional Men’s Health Initiative. The Regional Men’s Health Initiative is a Statewide program which works toward raising awareness of men’s health in regional communities. The Regional Men’s Health Initiative acts as a bridge of support and education to regional men, communities and health services.

Their motto is “Before it all gets too much, talk to a mate!”

The number of foxes and rabbits culled each year is usually similar, but this year rabbits were significantly down, which can be attributed to the recent release of the RHDV-K5 strain of calici.
