Community share in free trees in 2020

Healthy Environments

In August, Wheatbelt NRM held their Community Free Trees days throughout the Wheatbelt.

Each year we aim to reach different areas of the Avon River Basin, and this year we travelled to Brookton, Wongan Hills, Corrigin, Merredin, Lake King, Pingrup, as well holding one here in Northam.

The Free Trees days allow the Wheatbelt NRM staff to meet people within the community, share information on planting natives in their gardens or on their properties, as well as discussing the work we do and our current projects.

We had over 230 people come and meet us and grab some free trees, and gave out over 4000 seedlings – it was a great success!

We also had the chance to visit schools, and gave out a further 500 seedlings to support National Tree day activities.

Thank you to everyone that came and supported our event, and to Chatfield's Tree Nursery, Parnells Nursery, WA Farm Trees and Katanning Environmental Nursery for growing the seedlings.

This Wheatbelt NRM project is supported through funding from the Australian Government’s National Landcare Program.
