20 Million Trees - Monitoring Update

Posted in:
Healthy Environments

The second round of monitoring is underway for 13 revegetation sites in our ‘Avon River Basin EPBC species habitat security’ project.

The project is being funded by 20 Million Trees, which is part of the Australian Government’s National Landcare Programme.

Last week we visited four sites to monitor survival of seedlings and found that survival rates were significantly higher at sites where weed control, rabbit control and groundworks (scalping, ripping and mounding ) had been undertaken.

One site north of Merredin even recorded a 95% survival rate for seedlings planted last winter, which is a fantastic result!

These results are showing beyond a doubt that favourable weather conditions combined with good site preparation will ensure the success of revegetation projects in the Wheatbelt.
