Do you know a "Champion Farmer"?
Are they an inspiration to you and your fellow farmers who are seeking to farm sustainably in these increasingly challenging times?
Wheatbelt Natural Resource Management Inc. is looking for five farmers who, in spite of a run of poor seasons, continue to farm profitably and sustainably.
A "Champion Farmer" will be one who has taken steps to farm in a sustainable way on their own properties and also has inspired other farmers within the Western Australian Wheatbelt to adopt similar practices.
They could be farmers who have:
- Improved the health of their soil
- Applied innovative cropping methods to reduce erosion and increase soil carbon
- Integrated perennial grasses and fodder shrubs into their grazing systems
- Strategically used tree crops and revegetation to enhance the resilience of their farms
The "Champion Farmers" will play an important role in a DVD and a "Soil Health how to guide" and feature in a Sustainable Agriculture Conference to be held in the WA Wheatbelt early in 2013.
