National Landcare Programme Review

Posted in:
Governance

The Coalition Government is undertaking a review of the delivery arrangements of the National Landcare Programme, to ensure it is effective, efficient and continues to target natural resource management priorities.

The National Landcare Programme is a key part of the Coalition Government's commitment to assist communities to support the protection, conservation and rehabilitation of Australia's natural environment and to deliver more sustainable agriculture.

The Coalition is investing $1 billion over four years to support better natural resource management across Australia through the programme.

The programme funds priority areas including Regional Landcare Facilitators, Environment Stewardship, 20 Million Trees Programme, World Heritage management and Indigenous Protected Areas.

The Landcare community is invaluable in the delivery, innovation and knowledge sharing in sustainable agriculture and environmental activities. It has a vital role in opening up new opportunities to support the important work that farmers and natural resource managers do.

It also assists Australia to meet our obligations under the Convention on Biological Diversity, Kyoto Protocol, United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and Australia's Biodiversity Conservation Strategy 2010-2030.

The Coalition remains committed to protecting the environment and our productive landscapes through community action and engagement, ensuring we meet our international and national obligations.

Local Landcare groups, land managers, industry and environment groups, Traditional Owners, regional natural resource management organisations and other interested stakeholders have the opportunity to comment on the review of the National Landcare Programme through a survey, open from 15 September – 14 October 2016.
