Tree Crops

Final Local Planning Policy Tree Cropping

South East Avon Voluntary Regional Organisation of Councils (SEAVROC)

Tree crops have the potential to become an important land use in medium to low rainfall agricultural areas in Western Australia (WA). Landholders and private investors are looking to capitalise on emerging opportunities for farm forestry in these regions, diversify income streams and to gain the on-farm environmental benefits that integrated tree cops can provide. Given the increasing opportunities and interest in tree crop development, it is timely for local governments to ensure that these developments are adequately supported and addressed in local planning.

Strategic Tree Framing 2008: Growing a Sustainable Future

Forest Products Commission

Western Australia is feeling the effects of climate change and decreasing rainfall patterns. The State also contains more than 70% of Australia's reported dryland salinity and clearing of native vegetation has contributed to excess groundwater, soil salinity, water-logging and soil erosion. Combined, these factors have serious negative impacts on land profitability, health of remnant vegetation, wetland systems and biodiversity. The FPC offers tailor-made tree farming options for landholders designed to deliver environmental, economic and social benefits in rural areas, particularly for those in medium to lower rainfall areas.
