Data Management

Wheatbelt NRM has set policies and procedures for the collection, storage, use and maintenance of spatial information generated from all projects.  The benefits of managing data in this way ensures that:

  • a consistent approach is used to avoid future confusion about what the data means;
  • details about the data are documented so that it can be easily found and compared in the future;
  • corporate knowledge is maintained so that it can be used and added to in the future;
  • the data can be turned into information and contribute to the body of knowledge about the natural resources of the region, and
  • we can map the data to see where work has occurred in the region to assist in planning future projects.

Wheatbelt NRM's Spatial Data Management Policy can be viewed here.

Datasets generated as part of projects are required to complete and submit the following documents to Wheatbelt NRM:

  • Data Management Plan: A plan for managing data for its entire life cycle.
  • Metadata Statement: ‘Data about data'. It enables people and applications to find, understand, manage, control, use and maintain datasets.
  • Data Dictionary: Describes the fields and attributes of a dataset and contains information about the dataset that is required for interpreting it and assessing whether it is suitable for project use.
    Click on the links above to download the templates for each of these documents.

Avons Regional Spatial Information Management Toolkit

The Regional Spatial Information Management Toolkit is a resource manual which provides information on collecting, using and managing spatial data.

A copy of the toolkit can be downloaded here, or contact Karen Smith for a CD to be sent to you.

NRM Info

The Shared Land Information Platform or SLIP houses a portal to NRM Info, a web based tool to access spatial information about the Western Australia's natural resources.  NRM Info can be accessed at http://spatial.agric.wa.gov.au/slip/index.asp
