Wheatbelt NRM is pleased to announce the successful recipients of the Sustainable Community Grants. The Sustainable Community Grants support projects that demonstrate efficient resource use and inspire environmentally sustainable behavior in the Avon River Basin. This fund focuses on the community trialling, demonstrating and participating in Sustainability activities. The following applications were successful:

The Australian Government is investing $450 million over five years to deliver national Landcare priorities, at a regional and local level, through the Regional Lands Partnership. This investment will help protect and conserve Australia’s water, soil, plants, animals and ecosystems, as well as support the productive and sustainable use of these valuable resources.

2017 has been a year of preparing for change at Wheatbelt NRM, spurred on by both changes in State Government and a Federal election, as well as the implementation and uncertainty of National Landcare Programme Phase 2 (NLP2). An amazing amount of effort has gone into putting forward the position of the Wheatbelt to the various decision-makers to create opportunity.

The Wheatbelt NRM Annual General Meeting saw almost 100 people coming together to vote on 16 projects collated from over 500 submissions to date.

Landholders, scientists and community stakeholders gathered together as part of Wheatbelt NRM’s annual general meeting last week. Nearly one hundred people met in Northam for a think tank to help shape the future management of natural resources in the Wheatbelt.

Wheatbelt NRM conducted Free Seedling Days in nine Wheatbelt communities over the past month which were hugely successful. In particular towns such as York, we were overwhelmed with the response by townsfolk and those in surrounding areas.

Jodi Ingram joins Wheatbelt NRM as the Project Delivery Officer with the Marketing and Communications team.

Wheatbelt NRM are looking for stallholders to share its mega tent again at this year’s Dowerin GWN Field Days on 30-31 August 2017.

 

Wheatbelt NRM will be covering costs associated with site administration, marquee, program advertisement and attractions like the native animal displays.
