Avon Catchment Council (ACC) is undertaking an Indigenous Natural Resource Management (INRM) project in Cultural Mapping and Language Collection in the Avon River Basin, as part of its current Investment Plan to June 30, 2008. ACC has publicly declared it’s commitment to the maintenance and strengthening of noongar culture in this area, particularly relating to NRM, by commissioning, publishing and releasing the document “Ballardong Noongar Budjar: Healthy Country, Healthy People”. The Recording Traditional Knowledge (RTK) Project is an active demonstration of this commitment, and will involve identification and recording of cultural knowledge through mediums such as story, song, art and narrative; relating to some significant cultural sites in the Avon Basin. The area has several noongar language dialect groups but is primarily Ballardong (dialect group) noongar budjera (country).
