Envirofund provides opportunities for the Avon

Do you have a great idea for a natural resource management project? Could you use up to $50,000 for environmental works in your area?

From this week, individuals and community groups are invited to apply for up to $50,000 for natural resource management projects from Envirofund.

Envirofund is the local part of the Australian Government’s Natural Heritage Trust program. It provides funding direct to community groups and individuals to carry out on-ground natural resource management projects that can show a public benefit.

Projects can be on public or private land, and can be submitted by individuals, partnerships, companies and community groups.

Projects that have been funded in the past include: fencing, erosion control, off stream stock watering points, habitat protection, awareness raising activities and pest and weed control. The Avon region did well in the last round, with almost 80% of applications receiving funding: 51 grants were awarded for water management, re-vegetation, fencing, and biodiversity projects in the region worth a total of $659,985.

“The scope of what you can do is very broad,” says Deb Pople, Regional NRM Facilitator at the Avon Catchment Council. “If you can demonstrate your project benefits the environment or builds your skills and knowledge about natural resource management it may be eligible for Envirofund funding.”

“Indigenous caring for country projects can also apply for Envirofund, and we would be delighted to encourage applications from the Ballardong Noongar community,” adds Dianne Lovell, Indigenous NRM Coordinator.

The application process has been simplified from previous rounds, making it even easier to submit an application.

Application forms and Guidelines can be downloaded from the Envirofund website www.nht.gov.au/envirofund or by contacting the Natural Heritage Trust on 1800 065 823. Deb and Dianne can be contacted at the Avon Catchment Council on 08 9690 2250.

Applications close at 5pm on Friday 27th April.
